Kandooma Resort – Maldives

Posted on by

A perfect right out the front, luxury accommodation without the price tag, eight other breaks nearby.

Are You Kidding Me?

Kandooma ticks all the boxes.

Clean, safe, luxe and yet affordable with a bunch of quality waves on tap (not death pits, but fun, performance orientated waves with a few little barrel sections to keep you focused.)

The Perfect Wave Director Jamie Gray has pretty much been everywhere on the planet, he chooses to spend 80% of his holiday time at Kandooma, Jamie sums up the Kandooma experience – read Jamie’s and a bunch of other happy Kandooma traveller’s experiences below.

Scroll through the photos, they tell the story better than any words.

Make up your own mind.

After spending 3 months living at Kandooma Resort, setting up the Surf program there with my family, I believe that I experienced everything that Kandooma has to offer and then some. the First thing I can say about the resort is wow, the accommodation and facilities are more 5 star than 4. The restaurant’s and food never let me down once in 3 months, with quality, fresh and innovative meals every day, the whole family was catered for. The best thing about the resort is not the awesome pool, massive array of water activities to do, kids club, spa, gym or even the perfect right hand point break at your front doorstep. It is the staff! After spending many years visiting resorts around the world or the Maldives, it is hard to think of anywhere that compared to Kandooma for service. They all honestly care and bend over backwards to ensure each and every guest receives the service they deserve. If you are thinking of staying at this resort, DO It! You will not regret it. I had the pleasure of meeting many different guests over 3 months and I didn’t meet one that didn’t have a great time at Kandooma.

Friends of the Sea

Posted on by

It suddenly occured to me that all surfers around the world are a part of a very small section of society. The part that thinks of moving waves of energy crossing the vast oceans, about the storms and depressions which make these waves appear. About the interconnected nature of the Moons tides, the right winds, and the perfect swell direction hitting the right part of the reef or beach with the ideal sand bars to then break, and form the perfect wave.

We are a very small section of society and after an early evening surf in Bondi Beach last week this was even more apparent when I looked through the crowd and spotted a friend. A mate from a few years back, who I havent seen since my last surf trip Hossegor France, on the other side of the world.

It soon became apparent that we had been on the same journey type, a bit of ‘following the summer’ a bit of a change of scenery after both taking the winters off to go snowboarding.

Then a little lightbulb went on.

Its really important to see your fellow surfers as your companions rather than strangers as its such a rare occurance to find fellow humans riding waves together even if it is a crowded day. As a good freind Carwyn Williams once said -
” Smile and be friendly each surf, be sure to chat to each other and make sure you call your fellow man in to a few waves, even if they are a stranger and it should have been your wave. This is what surfing is !, you never know, maybe your life long best mate is sitting out there. Surfing is a million times better with friends”.
(Maybe not word for word but you get the idea.)

Not a truer word said, and if you consider friends to be people who have things in common who frequent the same places then, maybe everyone in that line up is your friend as they are following waves, wind, tide, breaks, boards, and water culture just as much as you are.

Happy New Year to everyone and may you have the best waves of your life this year and make many friends out in the line up.

Happy New Year

Posted on by

So its 2013 and the Pacific is starting to fire up with several active Tropical Cyclones brewing. This means surf and lots of it.

With the swells picking up and the size getting bigger all eyes turn on to “The Eddie”, a big wave contest of epic proportions in memory of Eddie Aikau, a heroic Hawaiian life guard who died saving lives.

It was a close call on new years eve as there were 20ft waves coming through Waimea Bay where the event is held, but it was called off due to the inconsistent nature of the swell. Its 20ft minimum out there and the competition has only run a total of 7 times in its 28 year life span, so its a rare day when all the elements come together to make it happen. Hope fully this year will deliver with young guns such as John John Florence in the line up.

The waiting period ends on Feb 28th so there is still chance that one of these TC’s will come up with the goods in time.

Here is this years inauguration, and from The Perfect Wave we wish you clean lips, corduroy seas, and open faces all the way through 2013. Have a most excellent 2013.

Stand Up World Tour comes back to Brazill

Posted on by

If you thought stand up surfing was slow and cumbersome, think again.

After a long summer break, tension is once again mounting as the Stand Up World Tour will return to the beautiful beach town of Maresias in Brazil for Stop 4 from the 28th November to the 5th December.

Brazil has become a fixture on the Stand Up World Tour since our first event there in 2010. We have also seen an impressive stream of Brazilian talent joining the Tour, with 2x Brazi eventl winner, Leco Salazar headlining, joined by the young hotshots Caio and Ian Vaz, but also Maresias local Carlos Bahia and Renato Wanderley to mention just a few.
